Rebecca Lockwood, Barrister & Solicitor

About Instructor Rebecca Lockwood

A qualified lawyer and experienced educator, Rebecca founded Grammatika International in 2012 with the goal of building bridges across the international legal community through learning and practice. She is the lead developer and instructor of all curricula, applying her wide-ranging and international experience in law, language, and education to the Grammatika learning environment.

Rebecca is a licensed barrister and solicitor with the Law Society of Ontario. She graduated from the prestigious Juris Doctor program at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto. After completing her articles under Barbara Jackman in 2014, she opened her own immigration and refugee law practice in association with Barbara and her renowned immigration and refugee litigation boutique, Jackman & Associates. Rebecca ran a successful law practice before moving into legal education full time (though advocacy is still a large part of her work!). She is also a Certified Community Mediator.

Rebecca has worked in education for over a decade all over the world. She began teaching languages in Spain in 2008 and, since the launch of Grammatika in 2012, has focused on legal education in practical, skills-based learning for lawyers and legal professionals. She worked in Manchester, England from 2017 to 2020 as a Senior Lecturer and LLB/GDL/MA Programme Manager at the University of Law where she taught Legal Skills, Ethics, Immigration & Refugee Law, Family Law, and Public Law. Closer to home, Rebecca has been an adjunct instructor at Osgoode Hall Law School in the International LLM programs since 2013. Through Grammatika and various teaching experience, Rebecca has taught hundreds of lawyers and law students from all over the world.

Rebecca was a monthly columnist for Canadian Lawyer Magazine 4Students during her legal studies and became a regular columnist at The Lawyer's Daily post-call where she writes on immigration, human rights, and legal education.

A Toronto native and lawyer, Rebecca has strong ties to the community, both legal and social. She endeavours to share those with her students to make their experience as meaningful as possible.

Rebecca is fluent in English and Spanish and has working knowledge of French and Italian. She is currently studying Portuguese.
